Join a wildlife ranger for a guided walk along the banks of the River Tweed in search of otters and river birds.
This three hour guided walk offers the opportunity to try to catch a glimpse of otters and the rest of the wildlife of the river.
Otters are elusive and there’s never a guarantee of seeing them, but during the walk we’ll be visiting some of the places where we know they are regularly spotted and using our local knowledge to improve your chances.
But the Tweed isn’t just about otters – there’s so much more to see.
We’ll be looking for the bird life of the river, including dippers, kingfisher, oystercatchers, heron, buzzards and common sandpiper. There’s always the chance of roe deer and a host of other creatures. From April to September we’ll be keeping an eye out for ospreys following the course of the river.
Your knowledgable guide knows the river well and will head for the places where there have been recent sightings.
This lovely riverside walk takes us through beautiful scenery on flat ground. We generally focus on the area around Melrose but can adapt this activity to fit in with guests’ requirements.
Prices start at £200 for a private group session for up to four people. Additional adults are £50pp, with children £35pp. Please note that prices are based on the use of your own transport: we can arrange minibus, coach or luxury vehicles at an additional cost. Contact us for details.
We run our nature walks to give more people a chance to enjoy the wildlife of southern Scotland and to help cover the cost of our community nature and wildlife projects. All profits go back into the community interest company to enable us to continue to operate the Mauldsheugh Wood community widllife project in Selkirk, along with nature club, school visits and collaborations with other community groups.
Extend your activity for an hour with one of our add-on packages and pick up a souvenir of your visit
